My Covenant University Experience
My Covenant University experience has been a
journey of profound contradictions, marked by both physical discomfort and
spiritual fortification. While the academic rigor and strict regulations create
an environment of constant pressure, the experience has fundamentally shaped my
character and my faith.
The most immediate and taxing aspect of daily
life on campus is the standard of the facilities, specifically the state of the
toilets. It is difficult to maintain a focus on "Total Man Concept"
when the basic necessity of a clean restroom is rarely met. The perpetually
"nasty" state of these facilities is more than a minor inconvenience;
it is a daily hurdle that adds an unnecessary layer of grime to an already
demanding environment. This lack of hygiene often feels at odds with the
university’s polished public image, serving as a constant reminder of the grit
required to navigate life here.
Beyond the physical environment, the sheer
level of stress is undeniable. The schedule is relentless, packed with early
morning devotions, back-to-back lectures, and strict dress codes that leave
little room for personal breathing space. The administrative bottlenecks and
the pressure to perform under a microscope can feel suffocating, making the
four or five years feel like a test of endurance rather than just an
educational pursuit.
However, it is within this crucible of stress
and discomfort that the advantages of Covenant University begin to surface. The
most significant of these is my spiritual growth. By being stripped of many
secular distractions and placed in an environment that prioritizes worship, I
have been pushed into a much closer relationship with God. The mandatory chapel
services, which I initially viewed as a chore, have become a sanctuary where I
find the strength to navigate the school's many challenges.
Furthermore, the environment has allowed me to
meet truly amazing people. The shared struggle of "living the CU
life" creates a unique bond among students. I have met friends who are not
only intellectually brilliant but also deeply supportive and spiritually
grounded. These "destiny helpers" have made the stressful days
bearable and the nasty realities of campus life easier to laugh off.
In conclusion, my Covenant University
experience is a blend of the unpleasant and the transformative. While I will
never miss the state of the restrooms or the overwhelming stress, I am deeply
grateful for the spiritual discipline I have gained and the lifelong
friendships I have forged. It is a place that breaks you down only to build you
back up into a more resilient and God-fearing individual.
